Fruit and vegetables poised to fight back

As Greeks prepare to tuck into huge portions of lamb and other meat on Easter Sunday next month, the government said yesterday that it will launch a campaign reminding people to eat vegetables and fruit so they can enjoy a healthier lifestyle and curb aging. Development Minister Dimitris Sioufas said that after Easter a 1.5-million-euro campaign will get underway, promoting healthier eating habits by encouraging people to eat fresh produce from each of the five color groups – blue/purple, green, white, yellow/orange and red. The campaign is part of an international effort by the World Union of Wholesale Markets (WUWM), which has already met with positive results in other countries. Marketing activities will include school functions, conferences and promotional initiatives in the food sector aimed at increasing the consumption of fresh produce.
