Captain Nemo all at sea in Rhodes harbor

The captain of a small Greek cargo vessel called Captain Nemo had some explaining to do yesterday morning after his maneuvering in Rhodes harbor went awry and he crashed into a US Navy ship docked at the island. The collision only caused a small dent in the USS Trenton – an amphibious transport dock – but it still prompted some 900 seamen to jump out of their bunks at 6 a.m. after the ship’s alarm was sounded. Authorities arrested the cargo ship’s captain, who was not named, and rushed him to a local prosecutor. But he was later released after admitting he had been careless while trying to move his vessel to free some space in the crowded harbor. The captain of the USS Trenton asked for charges not to be filed as the damage was minor and could be fixed by members of the crew, sources said.
