Ecstasy seized before reaching nightspots

Police arrested three men in Athens yesterday who were found to have in their possession more than 100,000 ecstasy pills in one of Greece’s biggest ever drug busts of its kind. The three men were not named but were said to be aged 55, 54 and 52. Authorities also found on them 22,500 euros, 6,215 Australian dollars (3,700 euros) and 3,000 US dollars (2,330 euros), a submachine gun and a pistol. Police suspect that the alleged drug dealers were about to start selling the pills in nightspots in the city’s coastal suburbs which pick up in the summer months. The ring is thought to have been operating for at least a year, earning large amounts of money for the suspects, police added. Each ecstasy pill is bought for 2 euros and sold for at least 10 euros.
