Doctor sought over death

A woman who had been suffering from a neck problem died after being given an injection by her doctor on Tuesday night, prompting a search for the orthopedist, who appears to have gone missing, police said yesterday. The doctor, who has not been named, took Evangelia Baboussi to the Geniko Kratiko Hospital in Nikaia, southern Athens after she collapsed in his office. He told hospital authorities that she lapsed into a coma after he gave her the injection. Doctors were unable to revive the woman and she died soon afterward. Her orthopedist left the hospital when he was informed of her death, police said. A coroner found that the 34-year-old had suffered serious lung failure. He said that the problem was caused either because the doctor administered the wrong drugs or because the injection was not done properly. Police had not been able to locate the orthopedist by late last night but did not rule out the possibility that he would turn himself in.
