Think tank offers tips for an efficient government

The Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE) offered a series of proposals yesterday intended to help make the government more efficient and flexible in its dealings. The think tank’s suggestions included changing the education sector so that it gives post-secondary institutions independence and boosts competition. The introduction of private universities is not the solution, IOBE said. Government proposals to introduce private institutions of higher education have been met with a wave of student and faculty protests that are expected to continue into the fall. IOBE idea’s indicated a broad reconstruction of the bulky and costly civil service. «Improving the quality of everyday life means improving the quality… of the government,» said Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos. «The improvement of administrative measures is a means for economic growth,» he added. Other proposals offered by the think tank include a regular review of the country’s laws and the deletion of outdated legislation.
