Firebomb attacks on McDonalds, Starbucks
Two McDonalds restaurants and a Starbucks coffee shop suffered minor fire damage early yesterday in a series of fire bomb attacks that took place within six minutes, police said. No one was hurt in the attacks. The first incident took place at Starbucks in the beachside neigborhood of Voula at 2.20 a.m., when a homemade bomb consisting of four gas canisters exploded. Three minutes later, police said a similar explosive device went off at McDonalds in Aghia Paraskevi in northern Athens. The last incident took place at 2.26 a.m. at McDonalds in the northern suburb of Vrilissia. Police believe the attacks were coordinated by self-styled anarchist groups and intended to express their opposition to the United States’ role in developments in the Middle East. No one has claimed responsibility for the incidents.
