Two workers died in a fire that broke out at a construction site yesterday in Palaio Faliron, southern Athens, where a multi-cinema complex is being built, authorities said. The blaze broke out at about 1.40 p.m. and spread quickly through the three-story building under construction due as a result of flammable materials on site. Authorities said the two men, who have not been identified, are a Greek and an Albanian. «There were many construction crews working at the same time. Some 400 workers were present at the time the blaze started,» a senior firefighter said. Twenty-one firefighters using seven trucks took about two hours to control the flames. Authorities believe that a spark from one of the workers’ tools or a small short circuit on site started the fire.
