New links in child abuse case

A child psychologist, who is in police custody after allegedly abusing boys at a summer camp in Attica, is thought to have been engaging in lewd acts with minors for more than 20 years, officers said yesterday after searching his home. The unnamed 37-year-old was arrested on Saturday at the municipal camp in Aghios Andreas, northeast of Athens, following allegations by two boys. But after questioning the man and searching his house and workplace, police found 50 DVDs with indecent images of children that the suspect is thought to have abused. Officers said that some of the names and details of the minors had been recorded, allowing police to identify five of the children. However, officers said there were many more unidentified children. Police fear that the suspect has been involved in the abuse of minors since 1984, when he was 15 years old. His name was linked to the discovery of a pedophile ring in the Netherlands eight years ago but officers said that nothing came of their inquiries at that time.
