FM puts focus on Palestinians

Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis told the United Nations Security Council late on Friday that the world should not forget about the Palestinian problem after a UN resolution calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon was unanimously approved. «The Palestinian issue is at the center of the conflict in the Middle East. It has to be confronted urgently… otherwise there will be no peace in the region,» said Bakoyannis Despite the Security Council vote on resolution 1701, which calls for «a full cessation of hostilities» and UN and Lebanese troops to replace Israeli forces in southern Lebanon, Bakoyannis said the international community had failed civilians in the area over the last month by not stopping the violence sooner.
