Man assaults 3-year-old girl

A toddler was allegedly sexually assaulted by a 66-year-old man in Loutsa, northeast of Athens, police said yesterday after the suspect volunteered to baby-sit the 3-year-old girl and her two older brothers. The man, who was not identified, had befriended the children’s parents over the last few months and offered to watch the youngsters on Tuesday at his nearby home for a few hours, supposedly as a means of helping to give the mother some respite. Police said that he then put on a pornographic film for the children to watch and sexually assaulted the young girl. The suspect then attempted to do the same with the young boys, aged 8 and 11, who fled the house, taking their younger sister with them, and informed their parents, police added. According to legal experts, the suspect may face tough sentencing if found guilty, as tougher penalties were approved in Parliament a few days ago for such offenses.
