Workers on the Poseidon vessel are pictured on the job yesterday at the Thermaic Gulf in the northern Greek city of Thessaloniki. The port’s city council hired the 12-meter boat and its three-man crew to clean the gulf of tons of rubbish that has been dumped in the sea near Thessaloniki. The Poseidon and its crew are expected to remove trash from the gulf’s waters every day, according to Thessaloniki’s Deputy Mayor Constantinos Kazantzidis. ‘We must all respect and protect the environment and not dump rubbish,’ Kazantzidis said.
