Phone bug connected to cheating partner

Police said yesterday that an OTE telecom technician uncovered a telephone bug that been placed to monitor and record phone calls from a home in Kifissia, northern Athens. Police believe that the device, found in a phone exchange box near the home, had been placed by a private detective hired to follow a spouse suspected of cheating. News of the eavesdropping device was immediately made public based on fears that it would have been leaked and taken on larger dimensions than it was worth given the recent incident involving the government, a source said. The detective had attached a tape recorder to the phone bug in order to provide recorded evidence about any illicit affair. Police said that the system found is one commonly used by private investigators.
