Magistrate to probe Alex case

An investigating magistrate was yesterday assigned to the case of the disappearance of 11-year-old Alex Meshivili in Veria as judicial authorities step up their efforts to discover the fate of the boy who has been missing since February. The plenary session of the Thessaloniki appeals court judges decided that Michalakis Georgiou be given the task of delving deeper into the case which has gripped the northern town where the child lived with his Georgian mother, Natela Ichuadze. Five schoolboys have been charged with murdering Alex in February and then disposing of the body. Their parents have also been charged with failing to control their children. However, authorities have not been able to make a breakthrough in their efforts to bring the case to court and have yet to find Alex’s body. Meanwhile, child psychologists are continuing to prepare their report on the mental state of the five schoolboys. Sources said they are currently in the process of speaking to the children’s classmates.
