Primary school and kindergarten teachers demonstrate in Thessaloniki yesterday – launching a five-day nationwide strike. Some 3,000 teachers protested outside the Education Ministry in Athens, calling for wage hikes and pension guarantees. A rally is due to begin outside Athens University at noon today. Participation in the strike reached an estimated 95 percent in Attica and 85 percent in Thessaloniki, unionists said.
