Child escapes captors chasing lottery prize

Police said that a child – which was kidnapped in June when its parents won a large sum of money in the lottery – was found yesterday after it managed to escape from its captors. The alleged kidnappers had taken the child and hidden it in an abandoned home in Paeania, east of Athens, after demanding a ransom from the parents who had just won 200,000 euros playing the Joker lottery. The suspect who is believed to have masterminded the abduction, along with three accomplices, is the 22-year-old nephew by marriage of one of the child’s parents, both Albanian nationals. The men, all wearing hoods, had initially broken into the couple’s home and allegedly demanded the money at gunpoint. They then resorted to the the kidnapping after discovering that there was no cash hidden in the family’s home.
