Mother linked to baby death

The mother of a 13-month-old baby boy which died in Hania, Crete, on Saturday was arrested yesterday after a coroner said that the child had suffered head injuries and internal bleeding. The parents of the baby, who are both foreign nationals, took the child to the hospital and told doctors that they had found the boy dead in his cot. However, Hania coroner Stamatis Belivanis suggested that the child had not died of natural causes. Police said the baby had been beaten by its mother. The 30-year-old is due to face a prosecutor today. The parents were not named. Meanwhile, a 3-year-old girl was in stable condition in the Hania hospital after being hit in the back by a stray bullet. The child was shot by mistake by her father, police said. Officers are investigating claims that the unnamed man did not have a permit for the gun.
