Children’s flu cases low so far this winter

The number of cases involving children suffering from the flu so far this winter are sharply lower than last year, with an increase expected after the second half of January, a medical expert said yesterday. Andreas Constantopoulos, a professor of pediatrics at the University of Athens, told Kathimerini that only two cases of children’s flu have been recorded at the Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital so far this winter. «However there is no cause for alarm as in Greece the flu is a harmless virus. In recent years there have not been any deaths of children due to flu complications,» Constantopoulos said. «In the US, an average of 175 children die per year from illnesses related to the flu. This is likely due to the different changes in the climate,» he added.
