Abused wife kills husband
A 53-year-old Polish woman arrested for the murder of her 52-year-old husband this weekend said she stabbed him with a kitchen knife to defend herself from his beatings, police said yesterday. Ambulance workers summoned to the couple’s apartment in Neos Cosmos found the man, Janek Kazimierz, dead on Sunday from internal bleeding due to a stab wound. Kazimierz’s wife said she knifed him in the back on Saturday night to keep him from severely beating her. Kazimierz had come home drunk and soon got violent with his wife, the woman told police. But her husband was so intoxicated he did not appear to feel the knife wound, she said, and he fell asleep after she stabbed him. He was still in bed when she left for work the next day. When she returned, he was dead, she told officers. The woman, whom police did not name, said her husband was an alcoholic who had abused her on a daily basis for a number of years.
