A garbage truck empties its load at the Ano Liosia landfill in northeastern Athens. A group of PASOK MPs visited the site yesterday to see close up the capital’s waste-management problems. They called on the government to develop a long-term strategy to deal with Athens’s household refuse. ‘The government must start planning for 2010 now,’ said Socialist MP Andreas Loverdos.
