The dreams of the treasure seekers
Among the most famous lures that inspire the dreams of treasure hunters are those of the SS officer Max Merden, which prospectors have sought in vain in Thessaloniki, Thessaly, and in the sea off the Peloponnese; the treasures of Ali Pasha, Petkov, Kara Ali and Valsam Voivoda in Rhodope; Lykos in the Peloponnese; Siadimas in central Greece and Nikotsaras in Drama. Fate had an ironic surprise in store for a group of treasure seekers who had secured a permit a few years ago to explore in Methoni Pieria. After digging down to a depth of one meter, all they found was a damaged 10-drachma coin.
