US Embassy missile attack claimed
Revolutionary Struggle has issued a proclamation claiming responsibility for the missile attack on the US Embassy and hinted it may target politicians and judges as well as Parliament, it was revealed late last night. The proclamation is due to be published in today’s edition of the Pontiki weekly newspaper, which has carried the group’s messages in the past. The Public Order Ministry said that the five-page proclamation was given to the police by Pontiki staff at 8.05 p.m. and was being examined by forensic experts. Earlier yesterday, the head of the police union suggested that the attack on the US Embassy was not a terrorist strike and that common criminals or anarchists may have been responsible for firing the rocket-propelled grenade. Public Order Minister Vyron Polydoras refused to comment on the claims made by Dimitris Kyriazidis, the president of the Panhellenic Confederation of Police Employees (POASY). US Ambassador Charles Ries said it is difficult to imagine that common criminals could have been responsible for the strike.
