Prime Minister…
Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis is shown addressing the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg yesterday. Karamanlis reiterated that Greece would support full membership for Turkey within the European Union as long as Ankara fulfills all its EU-linked obligations, including opening its ports to Cyprus. Karamanlis noted, however, that Athens would not necessarily back the EU bid of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) which insists on calling itself ‘Macedonia,’ the name of a northern Greek province. ‘I am a Macedonian, as are another 2.5 million Greeks,’ Karamanlis said.
