A 27-year-old woman in Thessaloniki is in danger of losing her sight after a mugger threw acid in her face when she resisted the thief, police said yesterday. The woman, who was waiting at a bus stop, was approached by the thief who attempted to take her handbag. Her reaction, however, resulted in the mugger throwing caustic acid at the woman, splashing it in her face and eyes. A 24-year-old Albanian man also sustained burns when he intervened to fight off the thief. Both were rushed to a hospital for treatment. Doctors said that the woman’s «situation is serious but under control» and that the man had suffered burns on the neck. The woman had third-degree burns on her face and legs, doctors added. Police are still searching for the attacker.
