Prankster nabbed after bomb hoax

A 28-year-old man was arrested in Thessaloniki after allegedly making four prank calls to police, warning them that a bomb had been placed in the US Consulate, authorities said on Saturday. The suspect called police from a public pay phone and told them that a homemade explosive device would shortly go off in the consulate. Police said that bomb experts immediately combed the building for explosives but found none. A police patrol, however, caught the suspect after seeing him at a nearby pay phone «acting suspiciously.» The suspect, who was not named, was taken in for questioning and later confessed to making the calls. He told authorities that he made the prank calls as a joke.
