The people of Lesvos on Saturday unveiled a statue to the great 20th-century statesman Eleftherios Venizelos, whose leadership of Greece during the early part of last century caused the country’s rapid expansion. The statue has been erected in the square of Kalloni, a few kilometers from the hill of Petsofa, the site of the last battle to free the eastern Aegean island from the Turks in 1912.
