Spiteful spouses post private pictures on Net
The number of crimes being committed on the Internet is growing, with spiteful ex-partners among the most common offenders, police said yesterday. Nikos Serketzis, second in charge of the electronic crimes squad in Thessaloniki, told the Athens News Agency that suspects are often males that post confidential information about their ex-girlfriends or wives as a means of revenge. «For example, in May 2006 we arrested a person who had published on the Internet erotic pictures of his ex-girlfriend,» he said. Privacy laws, however, slow down investigations, as Internet service providers often refuse to hand over information about their clients. «In order for us to continue with detecting the crime, we must submit an application to lift restrictions,» he said.
