Security guard injured in failed robbery bid
A security officer was hospitalized after being attacked in a failed armed robbery attempt outside an outlet of a toy store chain in western Athens on Saturday afternoon. Reports said the guard was in a stable condition. On a cash-collecting mission for the G Forest security firm, the employee was shot in the lower back after he refused to hand over the store’s takings to three bandits waiting outside a Jumbo store in the Aegaleo district. The officer managed to load the cash into the van and scramble aboard before his colleague-driver rushed off and transferred the wounded employee to a Piraeus hospital for treatment. Several more shots were fired by the bandits as the bulletproof vehicle drove off. The trio, who were seen fleeing the scene in a BMW sedan, remains at large. The amount at stake was not disclosed.
