A sixth-century BC black-figure pottery vessel is displayed at the Attica police headquarters yesterday beside other intact ancient pots confiscated from antiquities smugglers this week. Police arrested four people, including a 45-year-old mechanical digger operator, for illegally excavating several pottery items and four marble vases in Menidi, on the northwestern outskirts of Athens, and in Kifissia – where recent archaeological excavations have revealed rich ancient cemeteries. The gang was allegedly trying to sell the group for over 1 million euros.
