Where new tracks will be laid and how many people they will serve
– Line 3 (Syntagma-Ethniki Amyna) will be extended to Doukissis Plakentias (or even Stavros) in June 2004. The Syntagma-Monastiraki section will have been completed by the end of this year. The extension from Monastiraki to Aegaleo will be ready by June 2005. – The extension to Doukissis Plakentias and Stavros will serve the inhabitants of the northeastern suburbs (Holargos, Aghia Paraskevi, Halandri, Vrilissia) as well as the inhabitants of the Mesogeia area who will transfer at Stavros. The construction consortium Aegek-Aktor-Seli has undertaken the work. Passenger numbers are estimated at 52,000 initially, and 105,000 when the line is complete. – The extension to Aegaleo will serve the western suburbs of Athens and will be ready in June 2005. Three stations are provided for: Votanikos, Aghios Savvas and Aegaleo, and in the first phase, until the construction of the Intercity Bus Station, it will serve 75,000 passengers daily, rising to 115,000 passengers daily after the construction of the bus station. The Aktor-Impregilo consortium has undertaken the work. – Line 2 (Sepolia-Dafni) will be extended to Peristeri (Thivon) and to Ilioupolis. It will be constructed in two phases: The first will be the extension to Aghios Antonios, to be completed by June 2004, and in the second phase (due in December 2006), the line will be extended to Thivon, with a midway station at Peristeri. In the first phase, it is expected to carry 55,000 passengers daily, to rise to 105,000 passengers daily when the entire line comes into service. The extension will serve the inhabitants of Peristeri, Haidari, Petroupolis and Ilion. Contractors for the first phase are Alpine Ways-Freytag-Attikat, while the construction of the Aghios Antonios station has been undertaken by the Kalogritsa company. The line to Aghios Antonios and Peristeri has been subject to severe delays. The extension toward Ilioupolis, which will have been completed by June 2004, will serve the southeastern suburbs of Athens and an estimated 85,000 passengers. The consortium Aegek-Meton has undertaken the work.
