Road sign vandals on one-way route to court

Authorities revealed yesterday that they are taking 79 people to court in connection with the vandalizing of road signs following a crackdown which was ordered by the Public Order Ministry in September. Traffic police were ordered to record any damage to road signs so they could inform the relevant authorities to replace them. Police records show that local tradesmen and businessmen stuck labels advertising their services on hundreds of signs. Officers used the details on the advertisements to track down the offenders and take legal action against them. Many road signs were also found to have been spray-painted by soccer fans, so authorities have asked league officials to begin a campaign to stop supporters from vandalizing signs.
