A tortoise released by environmental activists…

A tortoise released by environmental activists ambles along a wall outside the House of Parliament yesterday. Protesters, who also set loose a number of small frogs, are afraid that a draft bill under debate in Parliament on delineating streambeds could lead to unchecked construction activity in the few unspoiled streambeds in the greater Athens area. The house will vote on the bill today. The government has estimated that IKA’s deficits in the period from 2003 to 2032 will total 108.6 billion euros, meaning that the government’s plan will be more than adequate. Asked, however, about the projected number of IKA pensioners during the next 30 years, Christodoulakis replied that their numbers had not been estimated yet.
