Farmer murders old couple
A 67-year-old farmer was charged yesterday with beating to death an aged couple in a village near Kalabaka, central Greece, after a long-running dispute with them over where their animals could graze. The unnamed suspect is said to have confessed to killing 67-year-old Eleftherios Fasoulas and his 70-year-old wife Eleni. The couple were found dead late on Friday near their home in the village of Aghiofilo. They had received blows to the body and head. Police said that their attacker had used an ax and shepherd’s crook to kill the pair. Two of his three sons have been accused of being accomplices to the couple’s murder. Trikala Police Chief Christos Bouras said that that the 67-year-old has accepted full responsibility for the killings. A prosecutor in Trikala ordered the suspect to be remanded until he testifies tomorrow. The incident is similar to the slaying of five hunters near Agrinion, central Greece, last November. Their attacker said he shot the men because they were trespassing on his land.
