No slacking for civil servants this summer
Civil servants were told yesterday to sort out as soon as possible when they will take their summer vacations, as the government tries to ensure that public services will not come to a standstill in a few months. Anyone who has had to conduct business at a civil service office knows that it can be a trying experience at the best of times, but attempting to get things done during the summer is usually a thankless task. Now, Interior Minister Prokopis Pavlopoulos is demanding that during the period from July 1 to September 15, two in three civil servants be at work and on hand to serve the public. The minister also instructed all public bodies to make sure that they use as little electricity as possible this summer, as demand for power is expected to reach record levels.
