Reward offered to catch terrorists

The government and the US Embassy in Athens yesterday offered some 1.6 million euros as a reward to anyone who helps authorities capture members of the Revolutionary Struggle guerrilla group which fired a missile at the embassy in January. The Public Order Ministry was the first to make the offer of 800,000 euros for anyone coming forward with information by calling 170 or 1014. The US Embassy followed soon afterward, saying it would give up to $1 million (800,000 euros) to people who provide clues about the group by calling 210.720.2929 or e-mailing [email protected]. «Each year, terrorist acts… kill and injure innocent men, women and children throughout the world,» the embassy said in a statement. «You can help bring terrorists to justice and save lives by providing valuable information to resolve past acts of terrorism or prevent future ones.» Authorities have never arrested a single member of Revolutionary Struggle, which has been active since 2003. High-ranking police sources told Kathimerini that the decision to offer a reward is just part of numerous efforts being to made to track down members of the group. It is not a new tactic, as rewards had also been offered for information regarding Greece’s most notorious terrorist group, November 17.
