Jewelry stash up for claim
Police have asked Athenians who have had jewelry or cash stolen from their homes over the last seven months to come forward and stake a claim to hundreds of items that have been recovered after officers arrested two suspected robbers. Attica police said yesterday that they had found 376 pairs of earrings, 202 rings, 110 medallions, 46 necklaces, 36 bracelets, 55 watches and some 6,000 euros in cash when they raided the suspects’ home in Zografou, eastern Athens. The two 18-year-old Georgian nationals had also allegedly made special master keys that they used to unlock apartments’ security doors so they would not leave any sign of forced entry. Officers said that they have already linked the two men to robberies in the districts of Holargos, Kypseli and Zografou but believe the two suspects are responsible for break-ins in other areas of Athens, possibly with the assistance of a third man who has yet to be identified.
