Mother of Alex keeps hope alive

The mother of 11-year-old Alex Meshivili, who has been missing for some 13 months, said yesterday that she has not given up hope of finding her son alive and pleaded with authorities to allow a Belgian police expert to help solve the case. Natela Ichuadze said at a press conference in Thessaloniki that her hope of seeing Alex again had not been diminished by the testimonies last week of the five schoolboys accused of killing her son. The boys, who all deny murdering Alex, told a magistrate that the 11-year-old died after he struck his head on a marble step. None of the boys admitted to pushing Alex but accused other members of the group of shoving him. «The time of mourning, when my sadness and tears made it impossible to move, is over,» said Ichuadze. «I am ready to fight hard. I will not compromise.» Ichuadze also called on the Public Order Ministry to speed up the process to allow a Belgian policeman, who specializes in investigating crimes against children, to help Greek authorities solve the case.
