Fake officers hold up van
Four men impersonating police officers held up a security van in Thracomacedones, northern Athens, yesterday and made away with more than 2 million euros in cash, authorities said. The incident took place when one of the assailants held up a security officer at gunpoint while he was restocking cash in an ATM machine. The armed man, along with two other accomplices, then forced the security guard back into the van, where he was beaten and tied. The gang then forced the driver and another security guard into following a car, being driven by a fourth assailant, to a remote area. The car had a blue siren, similar to those used by police cars, while all of the suspects were wearing blue uniforms like those worn by law enforcement. The security guards were tied up before the suspects removed the bags of cash.
