Arsonist group sets Athens cinema on fire

A movie theater in Kallithea, southern Athens, was damaged yesterday when a homemade bomb went off in front of the building in an attack that was claimed by a group calling itself the «Arsonists in Black.» No one was hurt in the explosion that occurred at 2.46 a.m., authorities said. Shortly after the blast at the Etiole Cinema, a man called the ANT-1 television station and claimed responsibility for the attack. He said the act was in protest at plans by the cinema to host an event for retired policemen. The cinema has denied involvement in any such event. The anonymous caller said that the group demanded that armed robber Yiannis Dimitrakis be freed from jail. Dimitrakis was an alleged member of a gang known as the «Robbers in Black» which conducted a number of high-profile bank raids.
