Strike action to disrupt classes

A 24-hour strike by teachers is expected to disrupt classes at primary schools and kindergartens tomorrow as educators walk off the job in protest at government changes to preschool education. According to plans set out by the Education Ministry, child-minding centers run by local municipalities and privately owned schools will also be able to operate kindergartens. «The Primary School Teachers’ Federation (DOE) considers that a part of preschool education will be left with municipalities and private schools, which will hire kindergarten teachers on different terms than the public sector,» DOE president Dimitris Bratis told Kathimerini. DOE has also organized a protest march tomorrow from their offices in central Athens to Parliament.
