End-of-term trip gets out of hand
Tourist officials and the local judiciary had to intervene yesterday with the management of a hotel on Rhodes which had refused a refund to a group of final-year secondary schoolchildren evicted on Wednesday for rowdy behavior. On the first night of their five-day trip to the Dodecanese island, the 103 teenagers and their accompanying teachers from a school in Kastoria, western Macedonia, were thrown out of their rooms by hotel security. According to the management, some of the pupils threw fireworks and flares from their room balconies, drawing indignant complaints from other residents. One of the teachers allegedly got drunk and was pestering other guests. The hotel refused to refund the group’s deposit, so all 103 had to spend the night in their bus. After going to the police, as well as to the municipal and tourist authorities, the teachers got a refund and booked another hotel.
