The Greek Orthodox patriarch of Jerusalem…

Surrounded by Greek bishops and Irenaios, the Greek Orthodox patriarch of Jerusalem (r), Archbishop Christodoulos (c) leads prayers for peace in the region during a visit to the Holy Land yesterday. ‘We appeal to both sides in the conflict not to harm and to respect by every means the holy pilgrimages of the Christian faith, and not to attack those people who have sought sanctuary inside the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem,’ Christodoulos said, and pledged $500,000 in aid to needy Palestinian families, as well as financial assistance to the Patriarchate. The archbishop returns to Athens today.
