Archbishop admitted to the hospital with symptoms of gastroenteritis The head of the Church of Greece, Archbishop Christodoulos, was admitted to a hospital in Athens on Saturday after suffering from symptoms of gastroenteritis. The archbishop had a high temperature and complained of stomach problems before being taken to the Aretaion Hospital. Doctors said Christodoulos would be kept in the hospital for the next few days for observation. The archbishop was forced to cancel a trip to Egypt. Religion and Education Minister Marietta Giannakou and Health Minister Dimitris Avramopoulosvisited Christodoulos in the hospital. Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis also called the archbishop to check up on his condition. LOVER’S REVENGE Woman blackmailed married man Police arrested a 35-year-old woman in Thessaloniki on Saturday after she allegedly blackmailed a 62-year-old married man with whom she was having an affair. The woman, a foreign national, demanded 5,000 euros from the man in return for not telling the 62-year-old’s wife of the affair. The man tipped off police and officers arrested the woman as she met with her lover to collect the money. Another man thought to have been the woman’s accomplice was also taken into custody but police did not reveal any more details. Bodies at sea Coast guard officers pulled two bodies out of the sea off Samos on Saturday afternoon, the Merchant Marine Ministry said yesterday. The two men are thought to be aged 20 and 22 and were described as having «black» skin. Officers said they found $450 in the pockets of one of them. Samos is a common destination for illegal immigrants who try to reach Greece from Turkey. Drug swoop Drug squad officers from Patras arrested 36 people on Friday night after a crackdown on drug dealing in the city on Friday night. Only four of the 36 suspects, aged between 20 and 67, are thought to be dealers.
