Culture Minister…

Culture Minister Giorgos Voulgarakis speaks during a ceremony held in Athens yesterday for the repatriation of a 1.3-meter marble statue of Apollo, dating back to the 1st century AD. The statue of Apollo Lykeios was returned to Greece from Switzerland after a memorandum of cooperation had been signed between the two countries for the return of illegally exported or smuggled antiquities. Voulgarakis said the statue had been stolen in 1991 from the town of Gortyn on the island of Crete. It will be returned to the island at a later date.
