Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis waves to New Democracy supporters as he leaves Iraklion, Crete, where he was attending the party’s preliminary conference. The gathering had the look of a pre-election rally and sources told Sunday’s Kathimerini that Karamanlis is considering calling early elections, probably on September 23 or a week later. ND has the right to serve out a four-year term, which ends next March, but Karamanlis is set to announce in August or early September his decision to go to the polls early, sources said.
