No butts for EU manifesto

A manifesto put together by 10,000 young people from across the EU calls for cigarette packets to include information on how to kick the habit, while also informing smokers of the habit’s impact on their health. The Health Ministry yesterday presented the manifesto, called «Young People: For a Life without Tobacco,» which also calls for nicotine substitutes to be cheaper than cigarettes and for 75 percent of packet labels to be covered with a health warning. Other measures that have been adopted by a Health Ministry draft bill headed for Parliament ban cigarette packets containing just 10 cigarettes and stopping the sale of tobacco to anyone under the age of 18. Health Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos said the measures in the proposed law are only the start and that more steps, such as banning smoking in public places, will also follow.
