Archbishop concerns allayed
The doctors treating Archbishop Christodoulos said yesterday that the head of the Church of Greece does not need further surgery on his large intestine as his peptic system should be back to normal within days. The archbishop underwent a colonoscopy yesterday as he has been suffering digestive problems since doctors removed a tumor from his intestine earlier this month. Christodoulos is also suffering from hepatoma, a cancer that originates in the liver. Doctors at the Aretaio Hospital in Athens said yesterday’s examination revealed that Christodoulos was suffering normal post-surgery symptoms but no further complications. «His health should be completely restored in the next few days,» the doctors said in a statement. They also denied reports that there had been disagreements about how to treat the archbishop. The hospital’s director Christodoulos Stefanidis said all the decision’s about the archbishop’s treatment had been made after consultation among the doctors.
