Ferry ticket prices to rise by 9.7-29.7 pct
Ferry tickets are to become more expensive as of May 15, Merchant Marine Minister Giorgos Anomeritis announced yesterday. Some prices will rise by up to 29.7 percent, but overall the hikes disappointed shipowners who were hoping for larger increases. On ships older than 10 years, passenger tickets will go up 9.7 percent in two stages – by 5.3 percent in May and 4.4 percent on November 1, when an additional 3 percent will be added to tickets on all ships, including high-speed ferries, to help the State fund less profitable routes. For passenger ferries launched less than 10 years ago, the total increase will be 29.7 percent, also in two installments. Tickets for cars will increase by 10 percent. Passengers will not pay more for high-speed ferry tickets, except for an additional 20 percent for their cars. In November, a list of categories of passenger entitled to discounts will be issued. They include children aged under 10, people with disabilities and large families, the war wounded and former resistance fighters, students, pensioned-off sailors and permanent residents of small islands.
