ND gears up for election
Ministers will begin their summer vacations today by drawing up plans for New Democracy’s election campaign, which is set to begin later this month, when Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis is expected to declare early elections. With September 23 being the most likely date for the national poll, New Democracy’s political council will have to meet later this month to decide on the candidates that will be representing the conservatives at the upcoming election. Sources said that ministers have been told to come up with a flexible pre-election schedule as the poll date could be September 30. Karamanlis is expected to make a number of public appearances in Thessaloniki between September 7 and 9, when he will open the city’s International Fair and make a keynote policy speech.
