The parched bed of the Kouris reservoir…
The parched bed of the Kouris reservoir in the village of Alassa, near Limassol in southern Cyprus, is pictured yesterday. Low rainfall over the past three years has left major reservoirs in Cyprus at just 17 percent of their maximum capacity. Cypriot authorities said there would hardly be any water left in reservoirs next year if the island has not seen significant rainfall by year-end. Last December, the second driest in the country’s history, authorities discussed the possibility of restricting household water use to maintain Cyprus’s dwindling reserves.
