Where a coffee costs 40 cents

The cost of the entire trip per person, for four nights in a single room and four meals was just 340 euros. In Albania, nearly everything is cheap – a cup of coffee is 40 cents, a small bottle of water 15 cents and a very large meal will cost less than 15 euros. Most products are only about one third of what we pay for them in Greece. Taxi drivers are extremely polite and short trips cost no more than 2 or 3 euros. Tourists who like a tipple will be happy to know that a bottle of whisky in a nightclub will put them back about 40 euros. As for shopping, bargaining is expected. Merchants are tough negotiators, but as soon as you make to leave, prices fall as if by magic. The need for cash is such that they won’t risk losing a customer.
